What song's lyrics make you think of futurism and Life Extension?

Here's my favorite, it's I.G.Y. from the Nightfly album by Donald Fagen, the former lead singer of Steely Dan.

Standing tough under stars and stripes
We can tell
This dream's in sight
You've got to admit it
At this point in time that it's clear
The future looks bright
On that train all graphite and glitter
Undersea by rail
Ninety minutes from New York to Paris
Well by seventy-six we'll be A.O.K.

What a beautiful world this will be
What a glorious time to be free

Get your ticket to that wheel in space
While there's time
The fix is in
You'll be a witness to that game of chance in the sky
You know we've got to win
Here at home we'll play in the city
Powered by the sun
Perfect weather for a streamlined world
There'll be spandex jackets one for everyone

What a beautiful world this will be
What a glorious time to be free

On that train all graphite and glitter
Undersea by rail
Ninety minutes from New York to Paris
(More leisure for artists everywhere)
A just machine to make big decisions
Programmed by fellows with compassion and vision
We'll be clean when their work is done
We'll be eternally free yes and eternally young

What a beautiful world this will be
What a glorious time to be free

Kewl! ;)

Well now, I get low and I get high,
and if I can't get either, I really try.
Got the wings of heaven on my shoes.
I'm a dancin' man and I just can't lose.
You know it's all right. It's OK.
I'll live to see another day.
We can try to understand
the New York Times' effect on man.

Whether you're a brother or whether you're a mother,
you're stayin' alive, stayin' alive.
Feel the city breakin' and everybody shakin',
and we're stayin' alive, stayin' alive.
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive, stayin' alive.
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive.

I think of the "robots" as the biological mechanisms within the body that Infernity needs to beat before we can all be immortal.

The Flaming Lips
Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots Pt. 1

"Her name is Yoshimi - she's a black belt in karate
Working for the city - she has to discipline her body -
Cause she knows that it's demanding to defeat these
Evil machines - I know she can beat them -

Oh Yoshimi
They don't believe me
But you won't let those
Robots defeat me
Oh Yoshimi
They don't believe me
But you won't let those
Robots eat me

Those evil natured robots - they're programmed to
Destroy us - She's gotta be strong to fight them -
So she's taking lots of vitamins - cause she knows that
It'd be tragic if those evil robots win - I know
She can beat them -"

It seems the few times of late that I put on the Flaming Lips there's just a lot of tracks that deal with Futurism. Here's another...

The Flaming Lips
From the album "Hit To Death In The Future Head":
"Talkin' Bout the Smiling Deathporn Immortality Blues
(Everyone Wants to Live Forever)"

Imagination, that's the way that it seems
Man can't only live in his dreams
Oh, it seems so hard.
If I'd lived a thousand times before
And if I'm gonna live anymore
Always brings me down
Everyone wants to live forever
Thinkin' that it'd be a lot better
Everyone wants to live for ever, whoah
The feeling in my head starts heading south
It seems it stops the fever from shootin' out of my mouth
Life gushing all around

Everyone wants to live forever
Thinkin' that it'd be a lot better
Everyone wants to live forever, whoah

Race For The Prize (Sacrifice Of The New Scientists) Flaming Lips (The) lyrics
Artist: Flaming Lips (The)
Album: The Soft Bulletin
Year: 1999
Title: Race For The Prize (Sacrifice Of The New Scientists) Print
Correct

Two scientists were racing
For the good of all mankind
Both of them side by side
So Determined
Locked in heated battle
For the cure that is their prize
But it's so dangerous
But they're determined

Theirs is to win
If it kills them
They're just humans
With wives and children

Upwards to the vanguard
Where the pressure is too high
Under the microscope
Hope against hope

Forging for the future
But to sarcrifice their lives
Both of them side by side
So determined

Theirs is to win
If it kills them
They're just humans
With wives and children

Theirs is to win
It will kill them
They're just humans
With wives and children

There are plenty more here from the same album, I've posted enough.

The most relevant would be "A Spoonful Weighs a Ton" and "Feeling Yourself Disintegrate".

I like the Queens of the Stone Age's "Better Living through Chemistry". Its a reference to the "Blue Pill/ Red Pill choice" in the Matrix. Will you nestle back into the artificial womb and fulfill your destiny as worker bee and cog in the machine, or take the Blue Pill and face the future with "eyes wide open"?

The blue pill opens your eyes
Is there a better way?
A new religion prescribed
To those without the faith
A hero holding a knife
And blood is not enough
Is it too late to go back?
Is it too late to go?

There's no-one here (there's no-one here)
And people everywhere (people everywhere)
You're on your own

Let's see if I'm hearing this right
Is it just that I should take
The never-ending supply
To carry out the dead
Your idols burn in the fire
The mob comes crawling up
I'm reclaiming my mind
Destroying everyone

There's no-one here (there's no-one here)
And people everywhere (people everywhere)
You're all alone

Yes - Starship Trooper
The Pillows - Hybrid Rainbow
The Rolling Stones - Wild Horses
Supertramp - Goodbye Stranger

Of course, I have an annoying tendency to find great transhuman significance in the most non-transhuman places... (like the Bible).

Well... it is about immortality, and it is by one of my favorite bands.

Viva Forever- The Spice Girls

Do you still remember how we used to be,
Feeling together, believing whatever
My love had said to me;
Both of us were dreamers,
Young love in the sun;
Felt like my saviour, my spirit I gave ya
We'd only just begun;

Hasta mañana, always be mine

Viva forever, I'll be waiting
Everlasting, like the sun
Live forever, for the moment
Ever searching, for the one

Yes I still remember, every whispered word
The touch of your skin, giving life from within
Like a love song that I'd heard
Slipping through our fingers, like the sands of time
Promises made, every memory saved
Has reflections in my mind

Hasta mañana, Always be mine

Viva forever, I'll be waiting
Everlasting like the sun
Live forever, for the moment
Ever searching for the one

But we're all alone now, was it just a dream
Feelings untold they will never be sold
And the secret's safe with me

Hasta mañana, Always be mine
Viva forever, I'll be waiting
Everlasting like the sun
Live forever, for the moment
Ever searching for the one

Liplex...WTF. I just found this thread and was going to post a different flaming lips song, "One More Robot/Sympathy 3000-21", off the same album. The emotional robot coming to terms with his humanism always made me so happy. I'm honestly thrilled. Plus the little orchestral ending - ah! Too much for words.

Definitely Break on through by The Doors:
[lol] [lol] [lol]
You know the day destroys the night
Night divides the day
Tried to run
Tried to hide
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side, yeah

We chased our pleasures here
Dug our treasures there
But can you still recall
The time we cried
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side

Yeah!
C’mon, yeah

Everybody loves my baby
Everybody loves my baby
She get
She get
She get
She get high

I found an island in your arms
Country in your eyes
Arms that chain us
Eyes that lie
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side
Break on through, oww!
Oh, yeah!

Made the scene
Week to week
Day to day
Hour to hour
The gate is straight
Deep and wide
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side
Break on through
Break on through
Break on through
Break on through
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Can't forget about Mr. Roboto! lol

Mr. Roboto
Styx

You're wondering who I am
(Secret secret, I've got a secret)
Machine or Manachan
(Secret secret, I've got a secret)
With parts made in Japan
(Secret secret, I've got a secret)
I am the modren man

I've got a secret, I've been hiding, under my skin
My heart is human, my blood is boling, my brain IBM
So if you see me, acting strangely, don't be surprised
I'm just a man who, needed someone, and somewhere to hide
to keep me alive, just keep me alive, somewhere to hide to keep me alive

I'm not a robot, without emotions, I'm not what you see
I've come to help you, with your problems, so we can be free
I'm not a hero, I'm the saviour, forget what you know
I'm just a man whose, circumstances, went beyond his control
Beyond my control, we all need control, I need control, we all need control

I am the modren man
(Secret secret, I've got a secret)
Who hides behind a mask
(Secret secret, I've got a secret)
So no one else can see
(Secret secret, I've got a secret)
My true identity

Domo arigato mr roboto
domo, domo
Domo arigato mr roboto
Domo,Domo
Domo arigato mr roboto
Domo arigato mr roboto
Domo arigato mr roboto
Domo arigato mr roboto
Thank you very much, Mr roboto, for doin the jobs nobody wants to
Thank you very much, Mr roboto for helping me escape to where i needed to
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, I'm gonna thank you, please thank you

Beeeyyyooonnnddd

The problem plain to see
to much technology
Machines to save our lives
Machines to Humanize

The time has come at last
(Secret secret, I've got a secret)
To throw away this
(Secret secret, I've got a secret)
Now everyone can see
(Secret secret, I've got a secret)
My true identity

I'm Kilroy
I'm Kilroy
I'm Kilroy

I heard this song once about ten years ago when a deejay friend, who was mixing it into techno tracks, played it for me, and i've never forgotten it.

It was written in 1971, and heard by millions of children watching the ultra-popular American TV show Sesame Street. I wonder how many of them would remember it now.

"Someday, Little Children"
sung by Susan (Loretta Long)
Music and Lyrics by Jeffrey Moss
From the album Sesame Street 2 - Original Cast (1971) Children's Records of America

Someday, little children, someday soon
There's gonna be a lotta people, yeah
They're gonna be living on the moon
Yeah, living on the moon someday
It might sound crazy, but it's true
You know who's gonna make it happen?
Well, it might be you, someday my little children
Living on the moon, someday my little children, yeah
It might be you, little children
Come someday, hey, hey, hey
Come someday, hey, hey, hey

Someday, little children, I hope it won't be long
People won't get sick no more, be always healthy, always strong
Yeah, people won't get sick no more
Sounds amazing, but it's true
You know who's gonna see it happen?
Well, it might be you, someday my little children
Won't get sick no more, my little children, yeah
It might be you, little children
Come someday, hey, hey, hey
Come someday, hey, hey, hey

(Children sing this in the background throughout the last verse)
Come someday, come someday, ooohh

Someday, little children, in a world I'm dreaming of
There's gonna be a lotta people, yeah
Living in peace and love
Yeah living in peace and love someday
To last a hundred lifetimes through
You know who's gonna make it happen?
Well, it might be you, someday my little children
Living in peace and love, someday my little children, yeah
It might be you, little children
Come someday, hey, hey, hey.
Come someday, hey, hey, hey.

how about Immortality by the bee gees?

So this is who I am,
And this is all I know,
And I must choose to live,
For all that I can give,
The spark that makes the power grow

And I will stand for my dream if I can,
Symbol of my faith in who I am,
But you are my only,
And I must follow on the road that lies ahead,
And I won't let my heart control my head,
But you are my only

And we don't say goodbye,
And I know what I've got to be

Immortality
I make my journey through eternity
I keep the memory of you and me inside

Fulfill your destiny,
Is there within the child,
My storm will never end,
My fate is on the wind,
The king of hearts, the joker's wild,
But we don't say goodbye,
I'll make them all remember me

Cos I have found a dream that must come true,
Every ounce of me must see it though,
But you are my only
I'm sorry I don't have a role for love to play,
Hand over my heart I'll find my way,
I will make them give to me

Immortality
There is a vision and a fire in me
I keep the memory of you and me, inside
And we don't say goodbye
We don't say goodbye
With all my love for you
And what else we may do
We don't say, goodbye

This is one of my favourites too.

Strangely enough I personally think of futurism the most while listening to psychadelic trance. It's not really that big a leap to make considering many of the artists get their inspiration from futurist sources.

Not Immortalist music, but Futurist music nonetheless; the tracks on Kraftwerk's The Man-Machine and Computer World albums. I see that alot of people have chosen Rock tracks for this thread...

Prince's "Seven", selectively quoted:

There will be a new city with streets of gold
The young so educated they never grow old
And there will be no death
4 with every breath
The voice of many colors sings a song
That's so old
Sing it while we watch them fall

All 7 and we'll watch them fall
They stand in the way of love
And we will smoke them all
With an intellect and a savoir-faire
No one in the whole universe
Will ever compare
I am yours now and u are mine
And together we'll love through
All space and time, so don't cry
One day all 7 will die

[(just how old)]
[(just how old)]
[(just how old)]

I've always felt this song uses obvious immortalist double-entendre, and its author is definitely a futurist...

Frank Black's "I Could Stay Here Forever"

See the scheming behemoth
Licking salt in their cave
Being together is their zenith
It's how they behave
Now we're hanging in tandem
Six trillion miles a year
How can direction be random
When you are so near

I could stay here forever [2x]
And I'm never bored with this all aboard
I could stay here forever

We've got some bills to pay
And when we pay them off
Maybe we'll get away
But if not, so what?

I could stay here forever [2x]

I could stay here forever [2x]
And I'm never bored with this all aboard
I could stay here forever [2x]
And I'm never bored with this all aboard
I could stay here forever

this song is my all time favorite :)

Alphaville - Forever Young

Let's dance in style,
let's dance for a while.
Heaven can wait,
we're only watching the skies.
Hoping for the best
but expecting the worst.
Are you gonna drop the bomb or not?

Let us die young
or let us live forever.
We don't have the power
but we never say never.
Sitting in a sandpit
life is a short trip.
The music's for the sad men.

Can you imagine when this race is won?
Turn our golden faces into the sun.
Praising our leaders,
we're getting in tune.
The music's played by the madmen.

Forever young, I want to be forever young.
Do you really want to live forever?
Forever - and ever.

Some are like water,
some are like the heat.
Some are the melody
and some are the beat.
Sooner or later, they all will be gone,
why don't they stay young?

It's so hard to get old without a cause,
I don't want to parish like a fading horse.
Youth's like diamonds in the sun,
and diamonds are forever.
So many adventures couldn't happen today,
so many songs we forgot to play.
So many dreams swinging out of the blue,
we'll let them come true.

Forever young, I want to be forever young.
Do you really want to live forever?
Forever - and ever.
