I agree, John. No one should be mean to anyone cause of their religion. (perhaps argue the ideas though.) The video keeps disappearing though (because of copyright I suppose), so I am locking the thread.

We can certainly discuss the merits of Mormonsim (or anything else for that matter) in other threads, though.

Thanks John for posting the link to the Mormon Transhumanist site! I was going to do that, after reading the first posts in this thread and being quite dismayed at the way Mormonism was being treated. I have great respect for what their transhumanist group has been doing, I have many Mormon friends, and it is not nice to pick fun of anyone. I got in a discussion on a different forum about this, there are not any groups I can rightfully choose to tear down, or make fun of--too much empathy and respect for others I guess, or just being a parent and teaching my children tolerance for the past decade...

I agree no group of people should be stereotyped based on nothing. However, I think most of the animosity towards religion in general (Mormonism or otherwise) comes from beliefs that are not founded on science. I don't think people are hating the people in the religion, so much as the things religion stands for. I am ecstatic, however, that there are groups of Mormon transhumanists out there. I hope that other religions and denominations can follow their lead. (Jewish transhumanists, Muslim transhumanists, Buddhist transhumanists, Baptist transhumanists, Catholic transhumanists, Methodist transhumanists, etc.)
