Great news!
There are many videos on google and youtube you can check out with kevin. I would encourage you to view this one. Pretty much has the same views as a lot of us here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RB_l7SY_ngI This post has been edited by Matt: Jun 2 2008, 10:12 PM |

I'm going to try to make it, because I'm really interested in functional body modification. If I don't, though, -I broke my puter- ask him if there's a movement to push for open standards in experimental interfacing. I have too much on my plate right now, but I always thought it'd be a good idea to form a community around these new experimental interfaces with tools to innovate in software independent of hardware (and also aggregate open source instruction sets and standards for interface types).
I personally want to create a haptic or olfactory interface for pitch recognition and computer performance (imagine being able to *taste* the difference between firefox 2 and 3). |

QUOTE Kevin has carried out a series of pioneering experiments involving the neuro-surgical implantation of a device into the median nerves of his left arm in order to link his nervous system directly to a computer in order to assess the latest technology for use with the disabled. He has been successful with the first extra-sensory (ultrasonic) input for a human and with the first purely electronic communication experiment between the nervous systems of two humans. His research has been discussed by the US White House Presidential Council on BioEthics, The European Commission FTP and has led to him being widely referenced and featured in academic circles as well as appearing as cover stories in several magazines – e.g. Wired (USA), The Week (India).

Many apologies for the program change tonight. I had corresponded through email with both Professor Warwick and his personal assistant during the past week, but perhaps something came up and he could not attend. I imagine he will still be amicable for a program in the future.
Many thanks to Richard Leis for stepping in as an impromptu guest. Richard gave us some inside info on space exploration especially the MRO and the Phoenix lander, a program he has been involved with for some time now. Very interesting stuff. |

Will be attempting an interview with Kevin Warwick at 2pm (10 minutes from now) on the Ustream channel. Tune in if you want to ask a couple questions. Since Sunday did not seem to work out, I suggested a time during the week and so this came up quick.

The interview was successful and saved, about 30 minutes long. You can view it at the Ustream channel. Professor Warwick discussed his background, his cyborg experiments, and the future of cybernetics. He also made a very bold prediction about the Turing test.

Professor Warwick also explained one of the new experiments he is preparing for - get this - direct brain implants. I forget how many people are participating (might have to watch it again), but they will be trying to achieve telepathic (wireless) communication from brain to brain. Wow!

Wireless brain to brain? Are you serious? You should have this guy back again. Maybe a special 3pm cst interview, then board meeting, then other interview. |

That was a very interesting interview, I only just missed by about half hour I think after coming back home from work that night. But I watched the recording and good questions were asked anyway. Thanks

Scientists to study synthetic telepathy.
The U.S. Army is funding this to the tune of 4 million dollars. Seems like Professor Warwick is already a ways ahead of this project. Of course the UC Irvine project is non-invasive. If it is just a case of using electroencephalography then I would think a few hackers could accomplish the feat using an emotiv system |
