As there are many people on this forum with heavily scientific backgrounds and a few involved in SENS, it would be great to collect opinions and information about how SENS is progressing currently through a thread. So it would be interesting to hear what you think through answering these questions.....
1.What do you think about the timeframes for progress in SENS,do you think they are realistic? 2.Do you think SENS is the most important currently ongoing project regarding aging? 2b)If not, what kind of currently ongoing aging-related research projects do you think could be more relevant? 3.Do you think SENS is feasible? 4.What do you think about the criticism that Aubrey de Grey has received, why do you think some biogerontologists and others don't consider it likely that it will succeed, how would you respond to negative opinions about SENS? 5. Do you think another deadly cause of aging will be found? Please motivate and describe your answers to each question as much as possible. It may be many other threads like this but I haven't found any,Hopefully this thread will collect current thoughts about it from many different people and may be really interesting to look at later.... |

1. Yes and no, it would be logical if you had more people on it and money, it can take even 50 years without better funding and team.
2. Yes, as it includes all the aspects together (besides maybe genetics). 3. Yes, it is logical, maintain the parts that run the machine at perfect health and it will work, there is no "mysterious" death or some soul that leaves you at certain age. 4. People are obsessed with misconception and complexity, the engineering approach should satisfy as a first crude therapy. 5. Doubt that, nothing that can't be expected. |

It goes down to actually getting some good results in delaying aging in mice. With that, funding would pour in. How are SENS current researches going?

QUOTE Yes I really wonder how the research is going, what about the soil samples, has there been any discoveries? The short answers are well, and yes -- and I just gave longer answers in ImmInst's weekend chat, which can be reviewed in the ustream channel. |

To your first question, here is the link to an awsome slide Aubrey uses at lectures and stuff, I think its the one I saw in Madison. It seems sound and realistic to me. Can you explain why maybe it isnt?
http://www.scribd.com/doc/522716/Aubrey-de-Grey-SENS slide 37 depicts it. Its basicly saying that we dont have to fix all of the 7 things right away, we only have to fix a certain percent of them to allow us to live till the next percent of them are fixed. He also outlines how technology improves at ever increasing rates. We went from not being able to fly at all to small planes, medium planes and then jumbo jets in like 37 years or something like that. Not to mention the more people we can get to help the better. "One person can do one years worth of work in one year where as one billion people can do one billion years worth of work in one year." |

Lol at slide 4. Probably due to my lack of attention, i've not seen before these 2 sources of information, either ustream (i did enter once but it said it was offline or something) or this slideshow which is great.
Brokenportal i agree that we don't have to fix it all but even the "little" we have to fix in order to dramatically increase our lifespan is a very hard task. I don't think that we can do it in the next decades without SAI. |

we're still live chatting in there about life extension if anybody wants to join us, tell us about your exploits with the conference or whatever.
Strong AI, never heard that, thanks for the term, wait, I think I might have seen goertzl talk about it in a ustream video. |
