QUOTE When lacking one enzyme or the other, roundworms kept on a severely calorie-restricted diet no longer live past their normal lifespan, they report in the June 24, 2009, advance online edition of the journal Nature.
"The only other known factor regulating longevity in response to diet restriction operates at the very end of the signaling cascade," said Howard Hughes Medical Investigator and senior author Andrew Dillin, Ph.D., an associate professor in the Molecular and Cell Biology Laboratory. "These two enzymes are further up the ladder, bringing us closer to the receptor that receives the signal for throwing the switch to promote a healthy lifespan." Identifying the receptor may allow researchers to design drugs that mimic the signal and could lead to new treatments for age-related diseases. This could enable us to reap the health benefits of calorie restriction without adhering to extreme diets in which the satisfying feel of a full stomach is strictly off limits. |

Damn.. it seems so close. It'd be so beneficial while I'm still young. Later main options will be in a SENS type approach to rejuvenate..

Damn.. it seems so close. It'd be so beneficial while I'm still young. Later main options will be in a SENS type approach to rejuvenate.. Then do calorie restriction and get the benefits! Tough decision, that would be... I'm a bodybuilder for almost 10years, it's my passion, my drive in life.. It would be pretty painful if I'd get cancer or other serious dissease later in life knowing that I didn't do what I really loved for nothing in exchange. And a "pill" which would mimick the benefits of CR would be so awesome. It's probably a multibillion market, I can't believe that very rich people aren't investing in a serious research/studies to develop this. Or are they? Or are they? look at how the company Geron was funded and developed. by a "crazy" texas millionaire who wanted to live forever... |
