Here in Australia we have a watered down science program called Catalyst on our public television station the ABC.

I just watched half of part 2 of this by accident

The transcripts of part 1 and 2 are available here:

http://www.abc.net.au/catalyst/

Part I
http://www.abc.net.a...es/s1932480.htm

Part II
http://www.abc.net.a...es/s1938423.htm

It seemed to actually be very conservative, pro cycle and pro ageing. e.g Hayflick was given dialogue in the show but not Aubrey.
In fact he was very near given the rights to the closing remarks:

"It’s a global phenomenon in our bodies. It is an event that involves virtually every molecule and consequently intervening in those events is going to be very difficult. There is nothing immortal in this universe. Nothing at all (Even at an astronomical level) there is nothing at all that is without change."

Of course I disagree with the show. Many of us have theories here that the show didn't even touch.

Hmm the part on the brain there is abit confusing..
Are those connections are actually neurons/glials? cause most researchs I've found seem to speak about new brain cells ect..

Gotta love those timescales...

At least 20 years (or was it 30?) before we can grow liver cells using stem-cells? Is that right? Maybe it is if it doesn't take into account the growth of other techs that may make it easier.

Catalyst is a bit of a "popular science" show rather than having much real credibility. They do dodgy things like dedicate a show to a rallying against the whaling industry or throw in half baked market "research" instead of proper scientific research e.g. their segment on the effect of fine particles on health. Although I admit when they got the blond bimbo to do the story on ITER it was absolutely classic.

They've been growing liver cells from stem cells for some time now. http://news.scotsman...m?id=1608072006
