This question has been asked many times. Its a question I have been trying answer for some time.
Attached is a document giving directions on how to calculate the human equivalent dose (HED) from an animal study.
Table 1 in the document gives you the appropriate factor to either divide or multiply the animal dose by.
for example: if a study using rats (divion factor of 6.2) found that a 100 mg/kg dose of lipoic acid was an effective dose to produce significant changes in the parameter measured, then the calculation would be as follows
100 mg/kg divided by 6.2 (rat) = 16.13 mg/kg HED
I weight roughly 70 kg. Then I would be looking at taking 16.13 mg x 70kg = 1130 mg for a 70kg male
Of course, as with most formulas, there is the risk of error. However, its a good rough guide/starting point.
