I would have gone, but I just started school again...which cryopreservation program are you enrolled in? Brain, full body, etc?

Hey, Aubrey de Grey was there too! He's super cool!

Bruce, you're really lucky to have such an intelligent, beautiful wife.

I hope to encounter such good fortune.

I've chosen neuro. This should help Alcor's suspension team focus on the most important organ... the brain. However, as full body vitrification is developed, I may reconsider.

Wow. I'd like to see what the frozen brains look like. Or is it the skull and the brain, or how does it work exactly, dude? Where can I learn more?

Hi ameldedic2.. the periodic table shirt was worn by Ben Best, who is currently the President of the Cryonics Institute located in Michigan.

Mike LaTorra posted his notes on the 2006 Alcor conference to CryoNet.org ... as reported by FightAging.org:

Thank you, bgwowk -- but I want to see what the frozen brains and bodies look like. Can you link us to that information please?

What plays a greater role in determining who a person is, the electrical/chemical impulses in the brain, or the genetical structure of the brain?

The full extent of their balance and integration are not completely resolved yet but one thing is certain; they both play a critical part in determining who you are.

The brain really does come out of the neonatal genetic mold as kind of semi-programmed tabula raza and a considerable amount of its developmental growth is all about how learning, memory, diet and experience etc. influence its structural form and function. Aside from molecular memory there are literally complex nanotubes that interconnect the neural system that we are only now beginning to learn about.

These connections appear to form postnatally and are not directly controlled by genetics. They may also be involved in how the brain is able to kind of rewire itself after severe trauma. And this is aside from the fact that we now do see that neurons themselves are under specific conditions replaced and regrow contrary to earlier dogma.

There is still quite a lot to learn about the brain IMO.

nootropikamil - Neuropatients have the full head stored (it causes too much damage to seperate the brain out). They're also stored inside of stainless steel dewars so you can't see them. At CI, the same is true except they use cryostats (large vessels made with insulating resins) instead of the steel dewars. It would be unethical to risk a patient's life by removing them from storage temporarily for visitors to view.

Hello! Bruce-- sooooo sad I missed you and Susan! We were heading out of town and missed that party after conf.!!!

Great science presented, great community! Our family had a great time...

Bruce-- keep Susan around--have a baby within the time frame that it is safe to do so!!!!!

You are a lovely couple--and would have enlightened children, like mine ;-)

Sorry we missed you, but when my book comes out this January (21 Century Kids) I want to hear what you think!

love and best wishes to all-- Shannon

by the way- if any of you are in Austin May 19th, then you are invited to my wedding-- it will be a lot of fun--and even cryonics themed ;-)
