I'm watching the channel 4 doco "Do you want to live forever?" and i think every newbie to the site needs to see this.
Alongside the movement currently being undertaken in the full member area where leadership are voting on the idea of hiring someone to make projects happen, I expect to see a lot of changes on the front page, and around the website in general. One of those changes I would like to see is a lot more 'collections' of resources prominently displayed on the main page, particularly collections of introductory material so that first timers can get straight into it.
I think the easiest point of entry for a newbie is watching a video. So, I propose that we introduce a prominent link (one of many more to follow) that links to an article: "Top 10 Immortalist videos"
The benefit of this is twofold: 1. Newbies can very quickly and easily get into what we are all about with a wide resource of information.
2. Top ten lists are commonly Dugg and voted for and stumbled upon etc.
The list should be maintained (new videos added to it and old ones removed as appropriate).
So for starters, I think this channel 4 doco:
http://video.google....065877451441972
should be number 1 on the list because it is produced by a reputable source, it focuses on the real science of our movement with a high profile figure, supported by many other high profile figures with some reasonable and common sense objections by other high profile figures. It is thorough, well produced, and overall I consider it to be largely positive.
Number 2 should be the ImmInst's own video ( http://video.google....ortality&time=0 ). It is overwhelmingly positive, very nicely produced with a wide range of professional opinion and covering a huge variety of topics.
Number 3 could be the film recently produced by Jason Silva ( ) which is a very nice personal exploration through immortality. It involves some interviews with high profile individuals and of course present a positive perspective.
After those three I am less certain about what could come next, but a few options are:
Ray Kurzweil's TED talk (which is not actually about ageing, but may help people realise that the future will happen faster than they expect)
(or maybe there is a better Kurzweil talk where he explains his desire to live longer?)
Aubrey's TED talk/s. The channel 4 documentary covered aubrey very well, so I think these talks should be further down the list, but they should be included because they do go into detail about how SENS might work.
Nick Bostrom.. He also has a TED talk. Does he have any other talks which could act as a nice intro into Immortality? Does he have any talks which focus on the Dragon Fable?
What other videos are there? Can we make ten?
