Dear ImmInst Members,

Please choose at least one(1) or up to three(3) of the following terms which you think most meets Dave Gobel's prize ($100) request for a preferably one syllable word to describe future people who do not age.

Reference:

Would you consider doing something for me? It drives me nuts that we do not have an adjective to describe someone who has many years, but has a biological age of a 26year old. We have "young" and "old" but not a word to describe a healthy, hearty and exuberant 500 year old...a word that would be attractive and desirable to "become". The closest I've been able to come is superannuated meaning 'lots of years', but it's not positive and too abstruse - not suitable for "marketing".

Would you consider doing a contest for folks to invent a cool word for this? The only thing I ask is that we capture email addresses and that MF would get a copy of the list generated...We would be willing to offer a $100 bounty to the winner - I'd suggest that the winner be derived by a multivote system if you're familiar with that method.

Then we can begin to memefect the language with the new word.

My vote is on ageless.

I also lean toward some form of infinivy.

My third vote is on a word that I cant feel as being represented right yet. I feel like it should be some sort of meld between the concept of super old yet youthful. Like Yold, of course thats stupid but, in my opinion the word is there, just yet to be found.

Hey Bruce,

-Epichrons / Epikrons (in short: Epics or Epiks)

-Aeviters (in short: Aevers)

-Perinners (to be pronounced: PEH-REE-NERS)

Thanks, Daniel.

I listed the "Epiks" and "Aevers" version as to meet Gobel's shortness preference.

My preference is for the word: infineon, short version: infy

Definition: An entity that can reverse its own aging process.

Example use:

1. At the core, he wants to be an infineon. 2. She managed to reverse her aging process, she's now part of the infy crowd.

Google hits for infy: 228,000. Infy is a comparatively unique 4 letter word, considering for example the word help which has more than 4 billion Google hits

Polychronist - being of every time simultaneously....
Eonios - of the ages, from the underworld... (perhaps not the best imagery...)
Perennial - to it's season, come again.

II) Aeviters (Aevers)

Please do not forget that the word is designed to fill in this blank and work in sentences.

S/He is young
S/He is Old
S/He is "____"

As a toddler, Bill learned to walk, then as a teenager he learned to drive as an adult he got a mortagage and then he became a(n) "_____" he continued to grow and expand his horizons year after year.

How can I get "_____"

One they were old, but now they're happily "_________"

She died when a safe fell on her head at the ripe "_____" age of 125.

By 2045 any Baby Boomer who had not "_______" themselves had shuffled off this mortal coil.

and so on...

Bruce my dear friend, you must be meaning Infinean [thumb] ....

The Infinean folk are those who defeated aging and crushed their mortal bonds!

Let us all transcend into infineanity (as a noun)

...and become infinean (as an Adjective)

Or: become an infinean (an a noun)

Infineate and rejoice! (verb: abolish the mortal bond)

Infineation involves the defeat of aging, man supremacy over nature! [noun: the processe of achieving infineanity]

" Soon our sun will rise and we will be crowned its kings... or better than kings. Infineans. "

Hi folks - I think what I'll do is give this another week. If there's no closure by then, I'll decide unilaterally and we can all move on and I can keep my obligation to the winner.

Thanks, Dave. Feel free to move forward as you think best.

However, I'm thinking that at this stage we narrow the choices down to 3.

After which we will put the 3 choices to a clear poll for vote by all membership.

This 3 choice poll would start Dec 1. and end Jan 1.

I like "evergreen".
Let me give some reasons: In the sense of "undying" it's old-fashioned and futuristic at the same time (it could "come around again" b/c it's not very commonly used that way, and yet it's somewhere in the back of almost everyone's vocabulary). Also it is a compound of two very common words, so it'll easily roll off the native tongue.
It has a positive, eco-friendly feeling, and trees surely outlive us. Consider how glorious and powerful and beautiful a tree can look after a couple of centuries.
Whenever anyone (in the early years of our current century) sees the word "evergreen" in the name of a funeral home or cemetary, they'll be subconciously reminded of their own impending doom- but also, if they've had some exposure to the "evergreen" meme, of the fact that somebody somewhere is doing something about that impending doom, and "maybe I should send them a donation..."
Also, green is my favorite color.
Some usage:
"For her ninetieth birthday, my Aunt Ida spent a week getting evergreened at a clinic in Goa."
"Last year, local evergreen molecular architect Yeeck Hong received a Nobel Prize for creating a chess-playing strain of E. coli."
"Are you an evergreen? Cuz I only date girls with at least 5000 cc of forebrain."
"Sadly, Uncle Billy never evergreened, and we lost him in his 110th year."

I look to close this stage of voting by Nov 30.

Unless objections, from Dec 1 - Dec 31, a poll will be created with the top three terms.

Thus far, the words chosen narrow to the following (using most popular shortened versions where possible):

5 infy
4 ageless
4 rev
3 aeviters
2 perennials
1 polychronist
1 eonios
1 epichrons
1 erinners
1 evergreen
1 superannuated

I like epichrons. Epik for short. I suppose it's a bit late.
