Something to consider is, American Express is doing this, Im guessing, strictly for the publicity. They get us to go out there and advertise for them. If, when we make the cut, and they go over our project they may, even if they arent supposed to, consider how many links the teams gave out for amex.

If a team with 3000 nominations has linked back 7000 times, and say we have 2100 nominations, but we linked back 11,000 times, they may consider us over them, or consider that in a tie breaker. So get that amex box out there as much as you can. If you go to my myspace page you can find that box, the embeding code is on it, its at the top of my page at myspace.com/uneed2balifeextensionist

Something like this happened to me before. I used to donate to the united way through work. The united way offered prize drawings to people that donated. I was usually in the top 5 people in amount of donations, and I won a prize two out of the three years that I donated. I think they bumped me up somehow because I was one that gave the most. Imnot sure though, but I recomend keeping in mind. Lets bring this up at mondays MFURI meeting.

That is the official site. It just doesnt start with americanexpress in the web address. It is an official american express project. You can find it through their page, americanexpress.com

If we keep up with getting nominations for this, and a handful more people join in in the next week then we will get the nominations we need. So keep it up. Im still out there today. Ive sent out about 150 invitations so far today.

A big key of course is to market it to the right crowds and in the right ways. If you have any questions or need help doing that then let me or anybody on the team know.

Here is an American Express ".com" page with links leading to the site-of-interest.

https://home.america...us_nu=globalbar

Was a link in the lower right corner, currently a link listed as "Important Announcements" below the Log In window. If they take it off this page, it can be found using AMEX search function and "Members Projects".

435 nominations. Slowly getting closer to 2000.
One week left to get good fundings for undergrad research against age-related-disease
What if we don't reach 2000? is it in vain?

It wont be in vain. What is in vain is doing nothing as 100,000+ blows past for our lives.

For one thing, this is getting the word out in general. For two, say theres a world where there were 3 or 4 people with some clout and newsletters that were there to help us get these 2000 nominations. That world may be there but we will never get through to those poeple if we dont push forward.

We arent that far off. We are actually so close that considering that an institute like this cant get those nominations is ludicrous.

We have 440 nominations, that means we need about 210 per day to get the 2000. That looks bleak.

But look at it this way, Im in it till the end, and I think I can get between 350 and 450 more nominations at this rate. That means there are only 1150 to 1250 more nominations needed. If Im getting say 400, that means that 3 or 4 more people could get all these nominations for sure.

Sign on, sign on today, get with us, we arent getting any younger. If 4 people out of 7 billion cant pull together and get this then theres not much hope for life extension.

Lets move with this, pledge an amount of recruits here, 30? 100? 5? Anything, we can help anybody who wants to with ideas for getting recruits.

Mind was talking about the AARP, more people can check that out. We need people from all the organizations, sing inst, forsight, lifeboat etc.. to spread the word there, we need more people in myspace and facebook and all over, its only a little more effort that is needed.

We are holding a AMEX special meeting again tomorrow at 4pm cst time in the ustream for anybody interested.

Sent out more requests via email and via telephone calls.

That doesnt seem like a lot.

Thing is though we are on track to get about 1500 nominations by the deadline. In the mean time we are increasing recruiting efforts and taking pledges from people and so there is a good chance that will fill in the gap.

They are taking 25 top projects, as of now there are only about 10 with more than 2000 nominations. They may go with the top 25 even if they have under 2000. The lowest one has around 1000.

We have great odds of winning this. There isnt a lot of competition.

Not to mention if we catch some breaks, like a teacher may ask students like dnamechanic said, then we may get way more nominations. So, we are on track, dont give up hope. I think we will probably win this.

We are posting it every where, if you can think of other forums, then please do post there, and give recomendations here. We have gone to sing inst, transhumanism+, aarp, myspace, face book and all over, but there are plenty more to go to.

The rate of nominations per day is going up. If the trend goes on we will make the nominations.

There is a special meeting being held today in the ustream channel, I have it embed here.

The meeting is for AMEX, who is on board, where are we at, where do we need to get, and who else is willing to pledge to get nominations by the end of the week.

We are really close. Another 5 people or so to work to get 500 or so nominations will get us there.

Bring some people who may be interested in helping get the nominations with. If youve gotten some then stop by and tell us your strategy, if your not sure if you want to help then stop by and get in on the discussion. With everybody working together like this we are making this project happen. We just may end up with $100,000 toward this project.

I have the welcomed task of responding to email inquiries (MFURI related) today.

My wife spent several hours last night sending a second huge batch of individual (one-at-a-time) personal email messages to people in her company. The response has been very good. People indicating that they have nominated, or will nominate, and mentioning that they know of others that will help us.

Also, the respondents are asking all kinds of questions about MFURI and The Methuselah Foundation ;)

This project is a very good way of starting a dialogue about life-extension.

The rate of increase in the nominations per day has gone up so much that Ive got butterflys in my stomach. I can feel that 100,000 or 1.5 million dollar check flowing through the mail already, cant you?

We will be meeting in the ustream for a general brainstorming meeting, and going over this a bit too, in a few minutes. Anybody interested please do go there. Bring your questions, comments, concerns, etc..

If you do it 24/7 now then we will push past 2000 for sure.

Now is the time to double up the efforts and drive it home. We may even be able to shore up a sure spot in the top 5 prizes if we get enough nominations now.

At this rate we are set to get about 2500 total nominations, but only if we keep it up. The top place project has around 3200 now, we could even beat that. If you guys want to make the commitment and make a run for beating the 3200 then let us all know here, Im in for that.

Sounds good to me. I asked my professor if I could announce the AMEX initiative in all my classes and they all agreed. This would be a good and easy way for students to help. I also emailed my favorite science blogs asking them if they could post it. I then sent it to everyone in my address book in a 'chain mail' for them to send on. These things are pretty easy to do to grab low hanging fruit.

I also found that someone has already posted it on digg: http://digg.com/gene...lated_Disease_2

It had been posted earlier to Digg (see here).

Good that it is posted again.

How do you start a chain mail? I havent even gotten to my email contacts yet, maybe thats good because now I can start that.

Try the aarp some more, and look up other retired organizations, like a retired doctors club or something like that. It will also alert them to the cause and maybe prompt them to give themselves.

If you totally run out then pick a good university thats into researching longevity like... I used to know some but I forget, ucla or anywhere, and cut and paste the emails from the proffesors one by one into microsoft word, and then every 30 or so, send them a bulk message about the amex and add their addresses to your contacts list, and then the next time we are doing something like this or you need it then the contacts will be there. I have 500 or so in my email from the ucla conference advertising. If you contact universities then be sure to contact their undergraduate research department too and pick up all the emails you can find in there.

Maybe theres some room to recruit in some media avenues... like, google, "science radio" and contact them and stuff. I dont know, just ideas.

Theres a cel meeting in the ustream at 2pm tomorrow, anybody interested stick around and we will hold a tentative discussion for amex right after that too.

Just nominated and forwarded the link to our Israeli and Russian transhumanists.

By the way, what’s the deal with the note that the nominators are to be “US residents”? Is it just an ambiguous/false expression? Being from Israel, I seemed to have no problems nominating the project.

As we all feverishly put our shoulders to the wheel.. all I can say is how proud I am to be part of a movement that recognizes the necessity of taking action if we want to create the change we envision. With the science pointing the way, a vote from you can help bring the day closer when the biological limitation of an entropic expiration date will not longer prevent humanity from realizing even greater levels of self-actualization.

Thanks to all of you for all you do and are doing to help end the suffering of aging.

Kevin
