Google "Tech Talk" by Marjorie Shapiro, professor at UC Berkley and researcher into various aspects of high energy physics (including working at the Large Hadron Collider)

The talk is entitled "Supersymmetry, Extra Dimensions, and the Origin of Mass: Exploring the Nature of the Universe Using PetaScale Data Analysis"

Basically, she talks about how to use computing to analyze high energy physics results, including those garnered from the Large Hadron Collider at CERN.

Cool.
But she kinda talks like strings theory is a fact.

Out of the 3 theories she presented as possible when the collider goes on line, she said that was the least possible of the 3. She seemed pretty skeptical of it to me. (although she did say it would be an interesting result) I don't know what gave you the impression she thought it was a fact.

I actually only watched half of it yesterday and watched the rest today. The whole thing was pretty good.

When the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) comes on line in May 2008, we should be able to learn a lot more about the early universe.

For more info on the LHC, see the wikipedia page:

yes indeed. That thing is going to be BADASS with all capitals.

Confirming the Higgs particle will be quite the event.

You know what would be fun ? What if the Higgs particle is confirmed... but it only does half of what it's supposed to do, and hints at the existence of another dozen heretofore unpredicted particles ? :p

Interesting video, thanks for posting it.
