I am looking for a b-complex but the only ones i could find were b-50 and b-100 complexes which have the same amounts of almost all the individual b vitamins. Is this ok, or are some required in higher or smaller doses than others?

That is a good question and I don't really know the answer. I know that B vitamins are synergistic but unaware of the ideal mix. The B-Complex I take is Country Life, Coenzyme B-Complex Caps, 60 Veggie Caps.

The supplement facts should be here:

I like this one stacked with inositol hexanicotinate and biotin.

thanks for the suggestions. krillin, how come there is no niacin in that one? Any chance it will cause a deficiency in niacin? It looks pretty good apart from that.

I think it was clever of them to allow people to choose which kind of niacin they want. In general, niacin or inositol hexanicotinate would be preferred, as it raises NAD better. But some people like to use niacinamide for things like arthritis, diabetes, and allergies.

That and the whole Niacinamide inhibiting SIRT issue.

The multi I use has adequate B vitamins in it http://tinyurl.com/2l664s (though I do wish it had methyl B12 and perhaps a higher dose of B12 at that) I add additional biotin (to offset ALA) and benfotiamine both of which I get in powder form (a little annoying to measure out but not too bad if done ahead of time)

AOR has a perfect new B-complex or you could just opt for their nicely dosed Ortho Core or Multi Basics.

The manganese dose in the Perfect Blend makes me cringe. 10 mg: just 1 mg shy of the UL. And selenite??? They're three generations behind! (Selenite is poorly absorbed in the presence of vitamin C, so selenized yeast was invented. Some people are scared of yeast, so selenate and selenomethionine were invented. Methylselenocysteine was later found to be best.)

Anyone ever experience anxiety from high doses of biotin? I don't usually have any kind of anxiety- but at a 5 gram dosage- i definitely felt some. And btw, i wasn't on any other supplement at the time. Maybe lack of synergy with other b vitamins?

No, I have never heard of that, seems odd as I dont see a connection to neurotransmitters etc.
On the other hand, 5 grams is way bigger than a high dose. I assume you mean 5 milligrams
.

I calculate my B vitamin dose by following LEF's recommendations for reducing homocysteine. I also take the LEF recommended 1 gram of TMG. (I get the B-vitamins packaged in a custom capsule-so I don't have to scramble around taking lots of pills. Also I replace biotin losses due to ALA in the same custom capsule. ) The custom capsule is easier on the stomach than B-multi's that are tablets.

I am looking for a b-complex but the only ones i could find were b-50 and b-100 complexes which have the same amounts of almost all the individual b vitamins. Is this ok, or are some required in higher or smaller doses than others?

I'm not sure what the point of time release B is. Many vitamins have a narrow absorption window and a time release pill might release a portion of its contents too late. The body's good at retaining B vitamins after it's flushed out what it doesn't need. Look at these half-lives.

B1 9-18 days
B6 25 days
B12 6 days in plasma, a year in the liver
Folic Acid 8 weeks

I've been using a cheaper Swanson's Activated B-Complex which has benfotiamine for B1, but probably more B2 than some here would like... Plus no B5 in the mix.

Might have to check out the new AOR too.

I express acute reactions to B vitamins, more than to other vitamins. I mean, I can *feel* taking largeish doses of B3, or B5. I do not *feel* a gram of vit C, or 400IU vitE.
If you can tolerate the various effects without getting edgy or whatnot, I'd go for a generous dose of 'em (no plain B100, that doesn't make sense, and no megadose of B2 or pyridoxine) for optimal methylation, neurological health, etc.
Perhaps SAMe and 5-HTP can help "under-methylators" tolerate the B's in moderate doses.

I take one pill of New Chapter's Coenzyme B Food Complex, Methylcobalamin 1000mcg, Biotin 5mg, P-5-P 50mg, Pyridoxamine 400mg, and Benfotiamine 450mg. Also get some folic acid from a few other products.

Some more good suggestions. I've been thinking i might just supplement b6 30mg and b12 1000mcg. Would there be any problems if supplementing just these two?
