I posted this in another forum for the benefit of
a HIV carrier some time ago, but unfortunately
she wasn't able to use it.
The later part had been drafted and saved, but was
never posted when it became apparent that the info
wasn't reaching her.
Despite the latest three-drug "cocktails" which reduces
the viral load to almost nondetectable levels, HIV continues
to mutate, eventually outsmarting the drugs.
I believe the missing link to this viral mutation, and that of
several other RNA viruses - Hepatitis B, Ebola, Hantaan,
Coxsackie B3, Nipah and polio - is selenium.

Selenium is not only important for the functioning of GSH-Px,
it is also critical for the proper functioning across the entire
spectrum of the immune system. Essentially, both the cellular
and humoral aspects of the immune system are affected
by the deficiency of this critical trace element.
Natural killer (NK) cells and lymphokine-activated killer (LAK)
cells, particularly those activated by IL-2, are important
playmakers in the immune system's fight against viruses,
including HIV. Suppression and depletion of these components
are at least in part responsible for the progression of HIV.
Selenium upregulates these components and at least retards
the progression of HIV.
