Regarding my exercise routine ....in December I herniated 4 discs, with 2 nerve root compressions, and had one disc jammed into my cord. I opted for alternative treatment instead of surgery (traction, injections, adjustments, heat, massage, accupuncture). I am now back into the gym and feeling well ...I cannot run without pain, but I can swim and lift again pain free. I can feel my fingers and arm again (no numbness) and the radiating pain is gone. So I am back in a build up stage.

Probably won't be able to handle the running because of the jarring, ever, but as long as I can do almost everyting else, I think I can put of surgery for a few years.

I would take the magnesium right before bedtime rather than in the morning. Magnesium is calming and acts as a sleep aid. If your vitamin E is alpha-tocopherol only, that is bad news -- a mixed supplement with all of the tocopherols and tocotrienols is ideal. Gamma-tocopherol should be present in much larger quantity than alpha. Other things you could change might include swapping out racemic ALA for Na-RALA, consider gamma linolenic acid (GLA), swap out pyridoxine for P5P.

Responses:

Mag- I am up in the air about the mag timing. It has a strong laxative effect on me, so I am not sure if I want to get woken up in the middle of the night. I think morning would be best for me because of this.

E - 160iu a day total would be Alpha-tocopheryl. To be honest with you, the whole vitamin E things confuses me a bit because I have read conflicting literature.

ALA - controversial again, sticking with ALA until I am convinced one way or the other.

GLA - I was considering this via EPO, but I am just not sure if it is a critical supplement. At this time I am thinking no unless you can convince me otherwise :)
