I've been researching collagen supplements for a short while now, and this is the collagen ingredients that I've found:

-Glucosamine (very important)
-Chicken Collagen Type 2
-Silicon

-Hyaluronic Acid
-Chondroitin Sulfate
-Hydrolyzed Collagen Type II

There's tons of collagen supps at vitacost=D

Also, BioSil helps to build to the collagen (recommended)
Any thoughs on this?

Good question. I take Glucosamine for joint health as well as for the good info. I've read here and elsewhere about collagen enhancement.

I've looked into this issue. I suspect I have some type of collagen disorder. There are a few I've found.

Magnesium (needed to make hyaluronic acid)
hyaluronic acid
MSM
Silica
Lysine
Proline
Vitamin C
Zinc
Copper
Bone stock
Beef gelatin

Other supplements that helps collagen/elastin

Gotu Kola
Pycnogenol
Quercetin
Any foods with a jelly-like substance like Aloe Vera.

There are lots more, but I can't think of them right now.

The type of hyaluronic acid makes a big difference. I think liquid HA is more bioavailable than pill form, unless the pill form is biocollagen, low molecular weight HA. I would suggest 2 tablespoons daily of lifetime liquid Hyaluronic acid, once in the morning and once in the evening.

One question, Collagen and Hyaluronic acid are protein, in a stomach are digest, and then inactivated.
The best is introduce oral supplement of glucosammine and chondroitin for GAGs builder, and
Proline-Glicine-Lysine + C vitamin and zinc for collagen rebuild..
I take this mix and the result are great..

I tried hyaluronic acid for a while but didn't notice anything. Any cheap sources for liquid HA? The gelcaps are pretty damn expensive. I'm thinking topical HA may be a better option.

Iherb sells lifetime Liquid Hyaluronic acid for 19.99. which is significantly cheaper than the 39.99 most healthfood outlets sell it for. I have noticed after weeks of use my skin becoming softer and firmer. The only pill form HA I would recommend is the low molecular weight stuff, but I really think the lifetime liquid is much better and more bioavalable. The label states 32 servings of one tablespoon per bottle, but I think there is closer to 50 because I take one tablespoon daily and it lasts me closer to a month and three weeks. Maybe I am not taking a full tablespoon, but it certainly appears that way to me. And for optimal results you should take both topical and oral HA.

Here is what I would think helps, rated from most efficient to less:

1. Dietary proline, maybe glycine
2. Megadosing a buffered form of ascorbic acid (e.g. calcium ascorbate)
3. High dose B Vitamins for protein synthesis
4. Protein rich diet
5. Hyaluronic acid, chrondroitine, glucosamine
6. Linoleic acid maybe

Studies? Are there any solid studies? (RCT, more than a few probands, not sponsored, replicated...)

As far as I know for a long time the conseus was that HA is not absorbed well or at all, but apparently it (or some form of HA) is absorbed. I'm wondering if you are aware of any such issues.

Some foods that are high in proline include eggs, cabbage and wheat germ. Some foods high in lysine include peanuts, fish cottage cheese, yogurt and legumes. Catechins in green tea also help with Collagen formation as well as blueberries and other dark skinned berries. Vitamin C is important for conversion of Proline into hydroxproline and Lysine into hydroxylysine. These are the collagen form of both amino acids.

I think this one is the best overall collagen supp:

http://www.vitacost....ell-Collagen-II

Containing:
BioCell Collagen (Chicken Collagen Type II) 1.5 gm
Chondroitin Sulfate 300 mg
Hyaluronic Acid 150 mg

It's rather expensive though.

Life Extension has a calcium supplement that has collagen.

"KoAct is patent-pending chelated form of calcium and collagen designed to support bone strength and maintain optimal bone health. "
