about 2 months ago i started taking bulk-powder L-Tyrosine (500 mg) and ALCAR (about 2 g's) from myprotein.com for concentration and other benefits, but slowly noticed that my usually up-mood went way down, i mean no motivation and concentration, really bad thoughts and even nightmares.
so after a while i stopped both of them cuz it was just unbearable, but my depression kept staying and i was unsure if it was even connected to those 2, since they're both known as mood- and cognitive-enhancers.
then recently i started my 98% resv from kingsherb and started feeling really good, not just body-wise but my mood went to straight to the sky, which suprised me since i wasn't expecting such pronounced mood-enhancing fx from resv.
well, yesterday i decided to give ALCAR and Tyrosine another try, just for gits and shiggles and bam, here i am licking my wounds, even had a crazy nightmare last night.

so whats really going on? why are these mood-enhancers bringing me down? could it be the brand or am i giving my body dopamine-overload?
any help is really appreciated.

You need to balance the dopameragic system with the serotonergic system.

If you take tyrosine or DLPA then you should take either 5HTP or tryptophan at night or later in the day.

yea, makes sense, i think i'm gonna leave my neurotransmitters alone though, since everytime i try to enhance them, i get the opposite effect.
deprenyl made me depressed, so did l-dopa and now this. if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

are there any studies showing ALCAR effecting neurotransmitter-levels?

Sounds a bit bipolarish to me, but hey it´s almost a fashion diagnosis nowadays.
You could of course be sensitive to the chemicals as well.
I started with nootropics 2007 because of recurrent brain fog and low mood. Piracetam made me hyper and "smart" and gotu kola levelled things out a lot.
I never really connected the dots a year or so after having a severe manic reaction from zoloft.

Resveratrol had a good effect on my mood as well. Together with bacopa and fish oil it was quite the combo. Sometimes with a little siberian ginseng in the mix too.

If you are using smart drugs to overcome brain fog, you might actually be trying to treat a common bipolar symptom (or casual unipolar symptom) which is concentration difficulties.

Bacopa monnieri had very good effects on my mood, recall and concentration. I´d recommend this over anything else. (except seeing a doctor of course)
