What is the effect of magnesium that is noticeable?

Olive oil also has a similar effect as fish oil to me, I feel a little bit better just in general

so u take a spoon normal olive oil from the kitchen? Won't that upset your stomach?

Should it? I take even more than a spoonful

I have no idea why they put it in energy drinks, except maybe to blunt jitteryness and anxiety that might otherwise result from the obscene doses of caffeine they are using now. But as you suggested I'm sure the actual amount of taurine is so little as to be inconsequential either way.

I find energy drinks to be more effective then just coffee i dont know why, also seems alot better then drinking coke wich makes me just paranoid if i drink to much of it.

I drink 3 redbulls a day.

Yes I could never go without omega 3 now.... EVER. Really helps with mood ;)

I highly recommend anyone who takes omega 3 to also supplement taurine. Taurine is so cheap.
http://www.imminst.o...mp;#entry346199

I also highly recommend looking into co-administering it with CDP-Choline, which is not so cheap.

Dietary uridine enhances the improvement in learning and memory produced by administering DHA to gerbils.
Holguin S, Martinez J, Chow C, Wurtman R. Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 43 Vassar St., 46-5023, Cambridge, MA 02139, USA.

This study examined the effects on cognitive behaviors of giving normal adult gerbils three compounds, normally in the circulation, which interact to increase brain phosphatides, synaptic proteins, dendritic spines, and neurotransmitter release. Animals received supplemental uridine (as its monophosphate, UMP; 0.5%) and choline (0.1%) via the diet, and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA; 300 mg/kg/day) by gavage, for 4 wk, and then throughout the subsequent period of behavioral training and testing. As shown previously, giving all three compounds caused highly significant (P<0.001) increases in total brain phospholipids and in each major phosphatide; giving DHA or UMP (plus choline) produced smaller increases in some of the phosphatides. DHA plus choline improved performance on the four-arm radial maze, T-maze, and Y-maze tests; coadministering UMP further enhanced these increases. (Uridine probably acts by generating both CTP, which can be limiting in phosphatide synthesis, and UTP, which activates P2Y receptors coupled to neurite outgrowth and protein synthesis. All three compounds also act by enhancing the substrate-saturation of phosphatide-synthesizing enzymes.) These findings demonstrate that a treatment that increases synaptic membrane content can enhance cognitive functions in normal animals.

I used to take three tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil to try to increase calories in my diet. I was trying to gain weight. I didn't gain weight, but noticed I got more ripped. I read somewhere, to burn fat, you must eat more fat. So I guess the oil helped to burn more fat.

Actually another benefit according to a Men's Health article I had read a while back, Olive Oil helps to shut down hunger for a couple of hours. I tried this and it worked for me. So if your starving, you can down 2 tablespoons and that should hold you till you get back from the grocery store.

Yep, I take mine in the morning with my coffee.  I use the magnesium to keep my AM anxiety at bay.  Magnesium malate seems to work better than magnesium glycinate for me.

I do use taurine largely because it is cheap and ended up with loads of the stuff. I use it as a night-time supplement.

The original research suggested a sort of GABAergenic effect, not sure if GABA was involved.

It is more recently considered to have an important role in muscle development, so its common in pre-workout drinks.

The taurine in red bull could be purely marketing. It sounds cool right? I suspect its due to the main reasons I use it, its cheap, it might have a CNS effect and (for red bull) it looks cool.

They would be far better off putting theanine in the drink, which has a noted GABAergenic effect.I don't use theanine BTW because its a bit pricy and I've loads of taurine to get through.

The other possibility is that red bull were trying to emulate the synergistic effect between theanine and caffeine that occurs in green tea.
