Calorie Restriction

Based on a myriad of research and subjective human experience for centuries, the number one method to improve health and hopefully longevity is to eat fewer calories.

“To lengthen thy life, lessen thy meals.” Benjamin Franklin.

In Okinawa Japan there is an old practice called “Hara Hachi Bu” - eat until you are 80% full. Okinawans have the longest life expectancy in the world and part of it is likely due to eating fewer calories.

Taken to its logical conclusion, people who want to maintain health and potentially increase longevity have developed a diet at or near the minimum caloric needs of the human body – termed calorie restriction (CR), or calorie restriction with optimal nutrition (CRON).
