Evidence
From ImmInstWiki
In evaluating evidence on nutritional supplements it is useful to distinguish between at least five types of study:
- population studies where the average diet of a group (human or animal) is contrasted with another group
- supplementation studies where study subjects (human or animal) are given a supplement and effects are compared either in time or with a control group
- in vitro studies where tissues, cells or their components outside of the body are exposed to a study substance or condition
- inference studies where biochemical, genetic, proteomic or other data suggest a model of how a substance acts
