Longevity Communities Network

From ImmInstWiki

Disclaimer, I had writers block on this outline. The basics are in this rough draft. This seemed like the right window of time to propose it and I didnt want to miss that window.

One way we could do this is to create a frong page at longevitycommunitiesnetwork.something and lcn.something.

We could then give each community in the network a section in the imminst forums. (or another forums, but it seems like this is right up ImmInsts alley) The front page of each community that joins could then have a "forums" tab on their web page that leads to their section of the "Longevity Communities Network" forums. There are many ways the sign up could be set, and it could get tricky, but I think its doable and well worth while. From what I can see, we would want to set it so that each web page in the community would prompt you to sign up for either that particular web sites forum section, or the entire Longevity Communities Network. If you sign up for all of them, then each section would allow you to post in a guest area. You would then have to pass each sections qualifications to get into their members areas, whether that be pay, pass a vote, fill out an application or whatever.

The communities that I propose to try to get into the network are:

group 1) ImmInst, Coalition to Extend Life (CEL), Campaign for Aging Rearch (CAR), Longevity Meme.

We should be able to get all of group 1 to join. Ive gotten positive feedback on the idea from the head of CEL. Of this group we would need at least ImmInst on board with version 2 of the idea, and then at least anycombination of two communities proposed from groups 1, 2 and 5.

group 2) Methuselah Foundation, SENS Foundation,

It seems to me that group 2 will be a hard sell on this idea, although I have gotten positive feedback on the idea from many of the SENSFAI-U (formerly MFURI) volunteer staff and advisors.

group 3) singularity Institute or Novamente, and Alcor.

It seems to me that we shouldnt add from group 3 unless we can first fulfill the description in group 1. I think we should probably only have either SingInst or Novamente, but not both.

group 4) Then also a good general science organization, and a good fallacy/critical thinking organization.

Same with this group, lets not add from this group unless we first fulfill the description in group 1. We should scout for a good science organization and a good fallacy/critical thinking organization, each with a web site that has an inactive forum, or no forum, and get one of each to join this network. The benefit to them will be that they will get a forum, the benefit to us is that we can meme directly to these target crowds, and get their perspective on matters. If it goes badly we could discontinue their forums spots later, if it goes smashingly well, we could add more of each kind of organization on down the line.

group 5) Finally I suggest we also add "ReinHelix" to the network.

ReinHelix is a web site that Im going to be starting so that I, and others who are interested, can meme the broad notion of the cause to the world with out having to use "Immortality" in every instance. Im hoping that we can incorporate ReinHelix with ImmInst. It would be governed by Imminst, it would be the same as ImmInst, the only difference being that ReinHelix would have its own separate part of the forums and its own front page with which to meme with as an option.

I have thought about the idea of proposing that this be called the "ReinHelix" Longevity Communities Network, but Im not sure that the name works the best so broadly, and I dont think any, especially not all of the organizations would go for it. Although, if it were just its own community with in the network then I think that would work as well.

Strengths

We can advertise all the organizations all at once, saving money and spreading the meme in larger swaths.

We all get on the same page literally and figuratively.

Immortality Institute members and supporters can meme ImmInst with out having to use the name Immortality Institute.

We can quickly adapt to most any demographic.

It shows strength in numbers, it shows people we are indeed more than just a small clan somewhere, we are a vast network.

Web pages that didnt have a forums before can now facilitate more communication, and communication is the lifesblood of any sort of progress.

By having different sections like this, we could get around the potential "forum overfilling" phenomenon that may be happening, where only about 20 to 40 people are ever online at once because the section has a fill limit of approximately that.

Weaknesses:

The 'who wants what' may get a little tricky, but when all else fails, a community could just back out of the deal.

Control, moderating, votes, may also get a little tricky, but I think it can all be worked out.

Other than that I cant think of any weaknesses.

Notes on other things to add to this outline,

-get the feedback of them all -ad lifeboat or ieet -expand on the central chat part -expand and organize version 1 and 2 better.
