- supplements are half/most of the threads and avoid distinguishing non-supplement threads
- a special radical lifext grouping will enhance the search for radical lifext techniques

Supplements and life extension are not always the same thing. Some supplements are used only to improve memory or to feel better or even to look better (creams, oils, etc.)
Life extension is about cryonics, transhumanism, the singularity and other ideas that may not be mainstream.

Agreed!Yes please! We are really drowning in stuff unrelated to the core mission...

Here is a recent discussion between brokenportal and I. It would be great if other people give their opinion on this topic.

I have been slowly developing a system independently of ImmInst because it seemed easier than getting enough support to loose ideas. I would be willing to put that on hold and use the time on an official implementation instead, if there is enough support for it.

Simply select one or more of only the categories that interest you using control/click option per item and then hit the "Perform Search" button. As long as that window as open the selective search parameters should stay in place but you may have to re do the options from time to time and it doesn't cross over to other windows or tabs.
It is not the best option but it does work and we would appreciate feedback on it, good points and bad. The default presently is still set by admin and unfortunately forums like politics and spirituality will still not appear after you perform the search. T o get them you have to navigate directly to the individual forum index, where the topics will appear again in the order they are posted to.
Also if you hit the Active Topics button you will return again to the forum default. You will only stay in the modified topics search while in the actual search page it appears.

I could be wrong though, Im still open to the idea. What do you all think of the "selective" button?

I know that it probably would if could be implemented right now. From what I understand its a programing dilema. Ill post a topic as a mock 2nd active topics section to hopefully show an increase in action and inspire a move to create a second active topics section sooner than later.
Please use it, go in there and respond to its topics and create more topics. Its here, Active Topics Section 2, Radical Life Extension

Yes please! We are really drowning in stuff unrelated to the core mission, and also in stuff that people mistakenly think is related to the core mission because of supplement-vendor hype, ignorance, and poor reasoning. However, there will always be cases on the margins, or that people think are on the margins ...
Indeed.
if some kind of solution is not implimented soon I'm going to stop coming here because the material is becoming increasingly irrelevant. There is so much irrelevant material finding the tiny amount of relevant material is becoming all but impossible, and therefore less is generated.
The supplements sections are killing imminst.
If everyone would look up at the drop down menus you will notice one labeled Selective.
it is ineffective and usually doesn't work.
Finding a solution should be priority number 1 for imminst.

Their priorities are forum bugs and maintenance right now, but they may be able to do something about this in the next month or soo too.

The issue of ireelevance and how it looks when visiting is very serious. I often do not get a chance to sign on lately so I have been scanning as a registered user and very little of what is being discussed is particularly noteworthy, interestng or relevant to this institute.
Also I have noticed that the numberof posters is actually diminshed and the number of visitors is down too.
Also I think the idea of direct links to the forum areas is helpful but not enough, I would really like to see a filtered active topics section for each of those categories rather than just the top few forum listings.
In general the site seems to have a few more options present though.
Please see this post and let's continue thte discussion there perhaps as others have chimed in on the same issue.

I think we might be able to find a person there with a decent bid who knows how to install a double active topics through the ipb functions or create a hack for one.
